Student Made Gangnam Style Video Pops 16k View on Youtube

The whole of OKM school is talking about it. The project has really boosted school spirit which to be honest we were lacking before. Everyone feels like they own the video because they helped share it and make it go viral. That is the magic of social media.

"We did that" is the buzz in the school. I'm part it.

Hi, I am Freya Kellet. I am 15 years old and I go to Okanagan Mission Secondary. I am a member of my school's social media class. Firstly, thank you for sharing our OKM Gangnam Style Video. Just thought I would give the back story behind the video.

Our social media class is a group of 6 students

Stanley Prescott

Thish Rajapakshe

Cameron Switzer

Spencer Lupul

Aaron Obedkoff

Freya Kellet

Let's not forget our wonderful teacher Mrs.Durley.

This is a new class dedicated to bringing our school together and creating school spirit through social media. OKM is a great school but until recently has not had great school spirit.

We came together in late september and in our very first meeting we fixed on the idea of a Gangnam Style parody. We worked hard before school and during lunch hours to create storyboards and organize fellows students and teachers. We were extremely lucky to find Harrison Mendel, an extremely talented filmaker who is also a student at OKM.

Our video was viewed for the first time at our school spirit assembly on November 1. The crowd laughed and cheered everytime they saw one of their friends or favorite teachers! After the assembly there was a buzz all over OKM, never before had OKM done something that united the school in this way. Everyone was proud of their school and wasn't afraid to let everyone know. No one could stop talking about OKM Gangnam Style. That night our video was shared on Facebook or tweeted on Twitter endless times! We woke up the first morning with 3,500 views and now we have over 16 K views!

I never thought that something as small as a view of a video could turn school spirit around in such a big way in such a small space of time.

A school that shares together, wins together.

Thanks again for sharing OKM Gangnam Style. If you have any questions please tweet us @OKMmedia for contact information.

Sincerely,

Freya K, Social Media Class, and OKM
